More about the project Child and Youth Friendly Land Use and Transport Planning: Guidelines and Literature Review

A set of guidelines for Ontario was developed in 2005, funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and also drafts for Nova Scotia and British Columbia, funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). More recent work, funded by PHAC, ensured that each province has a set of guidelines developed through significant consultation in the province.

Please click on a province's name on the right for a link to the Guidelines for that province.

For the project documents that are not province-specific, click here. These including the Canadian Guidelines, a document for rural communities, and a literature review that focuses on youth.

The project was led by Richard Gilbert and Catherine O’Brien, research associates of the Centre for Sustainable Transportation. Catherine was responsible for the four Atlantic provinces, the literature review noted in the project’s title, and the preparation of the rural document. Richard was responsible for work in the other provinces and the overall direction of the project.

In Quebec, Centre research associates Paul Lewis and Alain Rajotte were responsible for the development of the Guidelines. In BC, Jason Emmert and Alice Miro conducted a process of dissemination of the Guidelines. Jackie Avent did this in Manitoba. Catherine O'Brien and Janet Barlow disseminated the Guidelines in Nova Scotia.
